Phadamchen perched at 8,200 feet and covered in dense forests is a little village on the Silk Route just 21 kilometres from Rongli and 6 kilometres from Zuluk in Sikkim. If you are not used to biting cold and snowfall but want to experience the mesmerizing sunrise, excellent views and winding roads and valleys of this Silk Route circuit, then staying at Padamchen could be a choice. Phadamchen affords some of the best views of the valleys and forests of the Himalayan foothills. Phadamchen is an ideal place for passionate bird watchers. You can reach Phadamchen by hiring a car from Siliguri, NJP or Bagdogra. To visit Phadamchen you have to get an Inner Line Permit from Rongli, as it is heavily guarded by the Indian Army. Best time to visit Padamchen:
Padamchen experiences a pleasant weather throughout the year. The winters are not that chilling like the upper regions of the Silk Route circuit (Nathang, Lungthung or Zuluk) and the region experiences a lot of sunshine too. Padamchen does not experience snowfall but in deep winters (January to March) it’s quite chilling. The whole region around Padamchen experiences good rainfall and it is covered in forests. Rail: The nearest railway station is N.J.P.(130km). It will take 5 hrs to reach Phadamchen by car from NJP.
Air: : Nearest Airport is Bagdogra(140km) & Pakyong(65km). By car, it will take 5hrs to reach Phadamchen from Bagdogra and 2hrs from Pakyong.
